Fasted Training: What It Changes and What It Costs
The empty-stomach morning session has two reputations. In one telling it's a fat-burning multiplier; in the other it's a guaranteed performance loss dressed up as discipline. The research is calmer than either camp. Training fasted genuinely changes the session's fuel mix — more fat oxidized during the work, by a meaningful margin — but body composition over weeks tracks total intake and output, and the fasted groups in controlled comparisons lose no more fat than fed groups doing the same work. What fasted training actually offers is narrower and more useful than the marketing: convenience, comfort, and for endurance athletes a specific metabolic stimulus.
